Upon Inauguration as the 18th President of
The Japan Society for Die and Mould Technology

Keiichi Shirase
(Kobe University)
At the general assembly meeting of the Japan Society for Die and Mould Technology held on June 18, 2020, the board members of directors who will serve for the next two years was elected. And I have been appointed as the 18th president of the Japan Society for Die and Mould Technology at the board meeting. It is great honor to be the president of this society, but I feel so tense. Although my ability is little, I will do my best to manage this society with the support of the directors and committees, for making an attractive society.

Due to the spread of the COVID-19, many events such as the Olympic Games were canceled, and the Conference on Die and Molud Technology was also canceled in this year. In addition, the supply chain was disrupted due to severe restrictions on the movement of people and economic activities all over the world, and "Monozukuri" around the world stagnated. In addition, teleworks and online meetings became widespread rapidly due to the COVID-19 lockdown and the emergency declaration of COVID-19 situation. The die and mould technologies that support "Monozukuri" must respond flexibly in such environmental changes. In particular, it is expected that "Monozukuri" will become much smarter, process visualization and remote maintenance will be realized by utilizing IoT, AI and the advanced simulation technologies called digital-twin."

Until now, the Japan Society for Die and Mould Technology has worked closely with industry and academia to provide the opportunity for exchange the latest information on die and mould technology and for interaction of researchers and engineers in this field. For a while, the event will be held in consideration of the prevention of COVID-19, but I would like to improve the member service by holding online meetings for the JSDMT Basic Lecture, which are difficult to hold by offline meetings locally. It is necessary to avoid close contact between members, but to provide the opprotunity to make close interaction between members, and I hope that the Japan Society for Die and Mould Technology contributes to achieve the advanced "Monozukuri" mentioned above. That is my resolution as the newly elected president.

All board members of directors will do their best to make an attractive society, and we would appreciate your continued support and contribution to the Japan Society for Die and Mould Technology. Thank you.
